Tasting Experiences

Founder’s Tasting
A relaxed, seated tasting, hosted by a Wine Educator, introducing Joseph Phelps’ current release Napa Valley and Sonoma Coast wines. Includes our flagship wine, Insignia. Weather permitting, tastings will be held either on our outdoor terrace offering vineyard views, or accommodated in our cozy indoor lounge seating. Members receive eight complimentary passes annually.
Collector’s Tasting
A seated private tasting inside our Home Ranch tailored to your visit and hosted by a Senior Wine Educator. Guests will be guided through a curated selection of our most exclusive wines from Napa Valley and Sonoma Coast, including our flagship wine, Insignia, and a selection from the library. This experience includes two seasonal food pairings designed by our Culinary Team to show how wines can complement your meal. Members receive preferred pricing for up to four guests.

Chef’s Culinary Menu
Immerse yourself in an indulgent wine and food event. We invite you to join us for our Chef’s Culinary Menu, a multi-course semi-private wine and food adventure focused on seasonal dishes based on the team’s travels. Paired with the single-vineyard wines produced from our Sonoma Coast estate, and our finest Napa Valley bottlings, including a library vintage of Insignia. Members receive preferred pricing for up to four guests.

Vineyard Hike and Tasting
Offered second Saturday & Sunday, May through October Immerse yourself in the history of our winery’s beginnings through a vineyard hike among the vines of our Home Ranch in St. Helena. At the conclusion of your journey, you will return to the winery for a seated tasting, including seasonal items from our Culinary Team. Members receive preferred pricing for up to four guests.
Chef’s Tasting: Summer Truffle Menu
August 7 – 18th: Immerse yourself in an indulgent wine and food event. We invite you to join us for Chef’s Tasting Menu, the pinnacle experience in our Wine and Food pairing repertoire. A multi-course communal food and wine adventure focused on creativity and seasonality. Showcasing limited release wines and gems from our cellar. $450 per person, charged at time of booking. Phelps Preferred members are offered a 20% discount on up to four reservations.

Release Weekends
You are invited to attend the Joseph Phelps Fall Release Weekend on November 1, 2, & 3rd, 2024. Visit Napa Valley as Harvest concludes and be among the first to taste the 2022 Insignia barrel sample. Guests will also enjoy live music and hear the stories behind our wines while enjoying Ovation and library selections of Insignia and Backus Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, all paired with bites from our winery culinary team.
Phelps Preferred Dinners
We are thrilled to invite you to join us for our upcoming Phelps Preferred Dinners. Our culinary theme will showcase the flavors of the seasons. Each evening will feature a special multi-course menu from our Chef Tod Kawachi and his team for an exciting dining experience! Each evening will begin at 6:00pm with an Ovation Sparkling Wine Reception followed by a six course dinner featuring gems from our library including Insignia & Backus.

Do I need a reservation?
We require all guests to have a reservation to visit. We offer a variety of experiences to choose from.
Do you charge my card at time of booking or is it a deposit?
Full payment is due at time of booking for all visits.
Can I bring my children or dog?
To provide a safe, relaxing, and intimate experience for our guests, all visitors must be at least 21 years of age. Infants and children are not permitted at the winery. Please note that only certified service animals are allowed on property. We cannot accommodate pets. Thank you for understanding.
Do we have to do a tasting, or can I just walk around?
All guests do need to have a tasting reservation to visit the winery.
Can we walk through the Vineyards?
For the safety of our guests, we do not allow anyone to walk through the vineyards. If you are interested in a guided vineyard hike, we do offer our Vineyard Hike & Private Tasting experience on select weekends May through October. Visit Tock to schedule.
What is your cancellation policy?
For Terrace Tastings, we have a 72 hour cancellation policy. For all private experiences, the cancellation policy is 7 days.
We have someone with us who doesn’t drink. Will they be charged as well?
We understand that you may have a designated driver or a non-taster in your party. There is a charge of $20 per person plus tax for any non-tasters. Be sure to include them in your guest count so they do have a seat when finalizing the reservation. You have the option to choose a non-taster when booking through Tock. We do ask that at least half of the group participate in the tasting.
Can I bring food to enjoy during my tasting?
We are sorry, but no outside food is allowed on the terrace.
