We’re delighted to share an exciting evolution in the visual identity of our Freestone wines. As we embark on a new chapter, we’re returning to the original naming that defined Freestone in its early years, thoughtfully refined and reimagined for a new decade. This change honors our history while clarifying what has always set these wines apart: their origin in one of California’s most distinctive coastal terroirs.
Rest assured, the wines you love will remain unchanged. Winemaker Justin Ennis continues to steward Pastorale and Quarter Moon vineyards with the same precision, passion, and site-driven philosophy that has defined Freestone for over two decades. The same vineyards, the same farming practices now advancing toward agroecology and regenerative principles, and the same uncompromising commitment to expressing the fog-swept, rugged character of the Sonoma Coast. What’s in the bottle, those elegant, nuanced Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays you’ve come to know, remains exactly as it has been.

The updated label will lead with the Freestone name, placing the focus singularly on specificity of place. Joseph Phelps will appear on the back label, preserving the connection to the larger family of wines while giving these coastal wines their own unmistakable identity. This shift reflects Joe Phelps’ original vision: to find where in California he could produce truly world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Freestone is that place, and now, this new label will share and honor that story at first glance.
Phelps Preferred members will be among the first to experience this transformation with the release of our 2024 Pastorale Chardonnay and 2023 Quarter Moon Pinot Noir this April. Additional wines will follow later this year, and the complete transition across all Freestone labels will take place over the next two years. We’re excited to share this new identity with you and further steward Joe’s vision for these wines as they move into their next chapter.
