It is with great pride and excitement that we introduce the 2022 vintage of Insignia, our flagship Napa Valley wine. Each year, Insignia represents the culmination of our passion, dedication, and the unique character of our estate vineyards. The 2022 vintage is a testament to our team’s commitment to excellence.
A Vintage Defined by Character and Balance
The 2022 Insignia’s deep crimson hue hints at the richness within. On the nose, you’ll discover enticing aromas of dark berry compote and allspice, brightened by a lively freshness. With each swirl, notes of rich cocoa and freshly roasted espresso emerge, layered with herbes de Provence and cured tobacco leaf, a reflection of the diverse terroirs from which this wine was born. On the palate, cardamom and nutmeg add intrigue to the wine’s fruit-forward core, while firm yet refined tannins create a structure that carries through to a warm, savory finish. This is a wine of exceptional balance, crafted for enjoyment today and for years to come.
A Season of Patience and Precision
The 2022 growing season began with gentle weather and early budbreak, setting the stage for a promising vintage. A brief but intense heat event in early September tested our resolve, but through careful vineyard management and precise fruit selection, we ensured that only the finest grapes became part of Insignia. Our harvest began on September 9th and concluded on October 5th.
The Art of the Blend
This year’s Insignia is composed of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Malbec. The fruit was sourced from our most cherished vineyard sites: Banca Dorada (Rutherford AVA), Yountville (Oak Knoll AVA), Las Rocas and Barboza (Stags Leap AVA), Suscol (Napa Valley AVA), and Home Ranch (St. Helena AVA). After fermentation, the wine was aged for twenty-four months in 100% new French oak barrels from esteemed coopers, ensuring depth and refinement.
