A preamble to a story.
We are pleased to introduce Joseph Phelps Proem No. 4 Chardonnay. Each bottling represents a sense of place, the purest expression of our Freestone Estate on the western Sonoma Coast.
This wine was made from our Block 215 at Pastorale Vineyard, planted to heritage clone Montrachet. The fruit was whole cluster pressed and aged for 15 months in 60% new and 40% used French oak puncheons.
A pure Chardonnay expression from our Pastorale Vineyard with a lemon, fragrant floral, and minerally aromatic entry. A wine of great freshness, tension, and complexity, displaying ripe lemon, a hint of toast, and a chalky saline character as if touched by the ocean breeze. The mouthfeel is rich and round with silky tannins, textural refinement, and a lengthy finish.
The inaugural vintage of Joseph Phelps Proem No. 4 Chardonnay has been aged in bottle for a year prior to its release. A 30 minute decanting is suggested before enjoyment, or add to your cellar for up to 10 years.
