Napa Valley pioneer and creative visionary Joseph Phelps founded his namesake winery in 1973. Since then, we’re proud to have grown from a 600-acre cattle ranch into an internationally acclaimed winery – all while maintaining the joie de vivre that Joe personified. His dedication to excellence in all areas of his life are woven into the fabric of Joseph Phelps Vineyards and the Phelps family, and this is what continues to drive our ambitious vision for the future. Today, we are excited to announce the next chapter of Joseph Phelps Vineyards’ history as we become part of LVMH.

Joseph Phelps Vineyards has been a producer of iconic wines for nearly 50 years. During that time, and as we plan for the next 50 years, our family’s guiding principle has always been to honor and build on this legacy. We believe that passing the care of this crown jewel of the Napa Valley and Sonoma Coast to LVMH, a world-renowned leader in the luxury wines and spirits market, will enable us to do just that. As the trusted steward of historic wineries such as Dom Pérignon, Chateau d’Yquem, and Chateau Cheval Blanc, among others, LVMH is uniquely situated to shepherd Joseph Phelps Vineyards into the future, while staying loyal to the founding roots that make our brand synonymous with best-in-class California winemaking.

When we first began our discussions with LVMH, it quickly became clear to both parties that we were a natural fit for each other. LVMH is well known for taking a holistic approach to its wines and spirits brands and believes in preserving the uniqueness and authenticity of its Houses. They ensure the founder’s mission and values remain at the heart of each of their brands through a deep commitment to culture, people, and the continuity of operations.

It has been an honor for generations of our family to build and care for Joseph Phelps Vineyards over the past five decades. Joe’s passion first began with French wines, and we believe that he would be incredibly proud that LVMH will join his family in the guardianship of his vision for Joseph Phelps Vineyards.
