1988 Cabernet Sauvignon, Backus Vineyard
Winemaker Notes The Backus Vineyard, located on a steeply-terraced hillside just north of the Oakville Crossroad and Silverado Trail intersection, consists of gravelly, clay-rich soil that is high in iron, giving the vineyard a distinctive, bright rust color. Because of its unique soil qualities, drainage and exposure, this vineyard produces some of the most outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon in the Napa Valley. Rich, rip, extractive chocolate-berry fruit flavors are the hallmarks of these grapes, and in addition, our current offering has a lovely, complex bouquet of cherry, chocolate and oak.
Winemaking Data Grapes were harvested at an average of 22.9° Brix, fermented in stainless steel tanks, and aged 16 months in 60-gallon French oak barrels before being blended and bottled in August 1990.
