2019 Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley
Winemaker Notes A wine of length and purity, the 2019 Sauvignon Blanc bursts from the glass with floral, citrus peel and stone fruit aromatics. Crisp and refreshing on the palate with balanced, racy acidity framing green apple, apricot and honeydew melon notes followed by a lemon curd and mineral finish.
Winemaking Data The grapes were gently pressed to barrel for fermentation and six months of aging using 34% new and 66% once used French oak puncheons from coopers Dargaud Jaegle, Damy, Ermitage and Billon. The lees were stirred during and after fermentation imparting greater textural character and a light oak influence.
Vintage Notes Bud break occurred around the same time as 2018 but was delayed compared to our historical averages due to cold, saturated soils from the wet winter. May was cold with an unusual amount of rainfall which delayed bloom in some areas. Canopy management was key in 2019 because of vigorous canopies and moderate temperatures leading to less stress on the vines. July was cooler than average, but August and September warmed to push ripening ahead. The first block of Sauvignon Blanc was picked on August 28th and the last of the three blocks on September 5th. In 2019, the quality of Sauvignon Blanc was excellent with well-developed flavors and uplifting acidity.
