2017 Viognier, Napa Valley
Winemaker Notes The 2017 Viognier has perfumed aromatics of gardenia and orange blossom with Bergamot tea, pear and wet stone. The complex, unctuous palate is filled with fresh apricot, honeysuckle and white peach, finishing with a focused, lush finish.
Winemaking Data Grapes were held overnight in cold storage before pressing followed by barrel fermentation with native yeast. The Viognier was aged for seven months in one- to two-year-old French oak puncheons before bottling. The lees were stirred during fermentation enhancing the textured mouthfeel while complementing vibrant acidity.
Vintage Notes The 2017 growing season saw much needed record-breaking winter rainfall which helped replenish our groundwater and the vines. The cool start to the season delayed budbreak, bloom and harvest in the Viognier blocks compared to the three previous years. Overall, the 2017 growing season was warm due to summer heat spikes. The fruit from our Home Ranch and Larry Hyde & Sons Vineyard showcased bright acidity and concentrated flavors in this vintage.
