2015 Ovation Sparkling Wine

Winemaker Notes The inaugural vintage of Ovation Sparkling Wine is scented with stone fruit, white flower, exotic guava notes and a hint of toasted brioche. Delicate, refined acid structure and with focused layers of Meyer lemon, ripe pear and just picked apricots highlight an expansive mouth feel and lingering finish. Following disgorging, a dosage of aged reserve wine was added for balance. Exceptional upon release, with additional flavor benefits when cellared.

Vintage Notes The 2015 Sonoma Coast growing season experienced dry, mild winter and spring temperatures similar to the prior three growing seasons. Bud break was 3-4 weeks earlier than normal, followed by an early period of bloom. May temperatures were cool, but August and September were consistently warm, creating conditions for one of the earliest harvests on record. The early growing season resulted in extremely small clusters and berries with intense flavor and tannin structure. The early harvest allowed our winemaking team the ability to capture the natural acidity in the fruit with ideal sugar accumulation.

Reviews The Best Sparkling Wines To Sip This Winter - Vogue.com
Long-established Napa label Joseph Phelps first produced this wine in still form back in the 1990s, but when the vineyard’s eponymous owner passed away five years ago, his family turned the wine into a sparkling iteration (80% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir) in his honor. This premium, age-worthy wine’s branding offers a black backdrop that references Phelps’s legacy, with an image of a grape tendril growing around a wire guide (the trellising system used to guide growing grapes). Tasting Notes: Peach, vanilla, brioche -Kat Odell, Dec. 2020

11 Wines to Bring a Different Kind of Sparkle to Your New Year's Eve - Forbes.com
When the winery’s founder passed away in 2015, the team set out to create a vintage dedicated to his legacy with their first-ever sparkling wine. The grapes were harvested in 2015 before the blend of 80 percent chardonnay and 20 percent pinot noir were bottled in the summer of 2016 and aged for three years. The wine’s layers and complexity reflect the natural burst in flavors that were present in the small grape clusters from the harvest year’s early growing season. -Jillian Dara, Dec. 2020
