Overview Joseph Phelps Vineyards has produced dessert wines in select vintages since the 1970’s. While the winery may be best known for Insignia, the proprietary name Delice, first introduced by the winery in the 1980’s remained one of Joe’s favorites. We are pleased to revisit the Delice name for our dessert wine made from 100% estate-grown Scheurebe from our Home Ranch Vineyard in St. Helena. Bottled in 375ml only.

Winemaking Data One of the few Scheurebe plantings in California, grapes were hand picked and frozen, followed by a partial thawing before a long, gentle pressing. The juice was fermented in stainless steel at a cool temperature to retain the subtle aromatics of this variety.

Winemaker Notes The 2019 Delice opens with fragrant gardenia, stone fruit and a light tropical essence. Rich and round, the wine is bright and supple with textured layers of passion fruit, ripe peach and guava that linger on the viscous finish.

Vintage Notes Bud break occurred around the same time as 2018 but was delayed compared to our historical averages due to cold, saturated soils from the wet winter. May was cold with an unusual amount of rainfall which delayed bloom in some areas. Canopy management was key in 2019 because of vigorous canopies and moderate temperatures leading to less stress on the vines. July was cooler than average, but August and September warmed to push ripening ahead. In 2019, the Scheurebe quality was excellent with well-developed flavors and focused acidity.
