Winemaking Data A blend of two Chardonnay blocks from our Pastorale Vineyard that feature Old and New Calera, Maro, clone 76, Mt. Eden, Montrachet and Old Wente. The fruit was whole cluster pressed and barrel fermented slowly over several month, followed by malolactic fermentation. The barrels were minimally stirred, resulting in a wine of precision and lush, silky texture.

Winemaker Notes The 2019 Chardonnay is refined and nuanced with fragrant aromatics of Key Lime, white flower, jasmine, and toasted brioche. A wine of great distinction displaying delicate structure and subtle oak influence, with a long and layered palate of citrus zest, green apple and a saline note reminiscent of the nearby Pacific Ocean.

Vintage Notes The 2019 growing season was marked by heavy February rains, saturating the Sonoma Coast soils. Spring continued a wet cycle with rain during flowering and mild, cool temperatures into the early summer months. Grapes experienced an extended ripening season with harvest starting one to two weeks later than usual in most blocks. The long, cool 2019 growing season allowed the fruit to develop full flavor profiles with naturally fresh acidity and superb balance.

This is a wild chardonnay with so much sliced cooked apple, tangy pineapple and some mango. Vivid acidity. Energized white. Really lively and intense at the finish. Hints of vanilla and toffee at the end. So much flavor and freshness. -JS (May 2021)

95 Points - Robert Parker Wine Advocate
The 2019 Chardonnay Pastorale Vineyard explodes with perfume: white peaches, dried flowers, spring honey and exotic herbal notes that, combined with a whiff of graphite-like minerality, gives this wine a unique personality. The palate is wonderful, full and satiny and loaded with perfumed fruits, and it finishes with appealing juiciness and loads of flavor. It's incredibly gregarious for its age and can be enjoyed straight from bottle. -EB (June 2021)

This wine is memorable in its complexity and structure, built with such finesse, refinement and freshness. Succulent in peach, nectarine and pear, it evokes the sea air and fog of the region, showing a touch of lushness midpalate before giving way fully to crisp acidity and a briny tease of oyster shell. -VB (Nov. 2021)

I continue to love the Sonoma releases from this iconic Napa producer. Starting with the 2019 Chardonnay Pastorale Vineyard, its light gold hue is followed by a vibrant bouquet of pineapple and subtle tropical fruits that are balanced by classy oak, spice, and honeyed flower aromas and flavors. Juicy, medium-bodied, and lively on the palate, with impeccable balance, it will shine for 4-5 years, if not longer. (July 2021)

93 Points - Wine Spectator
Vibrant acidity backs the lithe blend of apple and white currant flavors that are loaded with minerally richness, while savory hints linger on the pure-tasting finish, with sea salt accents. Elegant and stylish. Drink now through 2025. —KM (May, 2021)

The 2019 Chardonnay Pastorale Vineyard offers a bit more energy and... tangerine oil, dried herbs, lemon confit and almond develop with a bit of coaxing. This is an especially phenolic, savory style. (Sept. 2021)
