Blend and Grape Sources 100% estate-grown Chardonnay from our Pastorale Vineyard.

Appellation Sonoma Coast

Aging/Cooperage 13 months in 70% new and 30% once used French oak puncheons.

Winemaking Data This limited production Chardonnay is a blend of three blocks at Pastorale Vineyard planted to heritage clone Maro, clone 76, Old Calera, New Calera, Montra and Old Wente. Grapes were whole cluster pressed to barrel and fermented slowly over several months, followed by malolactic fermentation. Barrels were stirred as necessary, resulting in a focused, richly concentrated wine.

Winemaker Notes The 2016 Pastorale Chardonnay showcases ripe pear, toasty brioche, sweet Fuji apple, lemongrass and citrus peel with a hint of juicy white peach. A fresh and focused Chardonnay with lively acid, sumptuous mouth feel and a honeyed, lingering finish.

Vintage Notes The 2016 Sonoma Coast growing season began with a warm, mild winter resulting in an early bud break at the beginning of March. A normal period of bloom and veraison took place in early May and mid-July, respectively. The 2016 growing season was cooler compared to the previous three vintages, especially in August and September, allowing for delicate aromas and flavors to develop slowly in the Chardonnay blocks.

Reviews 95 Points - Robert Parker Wine Advocate
The 2016 Chardonnay Pastorale Vineyard has a seductively peachy nose with notions of white peaches, beeswax, ginger and honeysuckle with hints of crushed rocks and green guava. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers bags of stone fruit and tropical flavors with a creamy texture and lively line lifting the very long, spicy finish. (2018)

95 Points - Wine Enthusiast
This estate-grown wine from a deeply coastal site offers a steely entry of high-toned acidity and follow-through, a bright, focused and fresh exploration of quenching Meyer lemon pulp and zest. Green apple, lime and integrated oak support the well-composed build up of flavor and texture. -VB (2018)

94 Points - James Suckling
This has impressive weight and still holds an edge of tension and energy. It delivers big peach and melon aromas with gentle toffee and custard notes. Some hazelnuts, too. The palate has a svelte, long and fleshy feel, sweeping layers of stone-fruit flavors. Some grapefruit to close. Drink now. (2018)
