Blend and Grape Sources 100% estate-grown Chardonnay from our Freestone Vineyards.

Appellation Sonoma Coast

Harvest Dates August 28 - September 10, 2015

Aging/Cooperage Thirteen months in 33% new and 67% two- to three-year-old French oak puncheons and barrels.

Winemaking Data To preserve fruit integrity and freshness, our vineyards are picked under lights and whole cluster pressing cold directly to barrel for fermentation. Barrels were stirred as necessary during malolactic fermentation, resulting in a focused, opulent wine.

Winemaker Notes Bright and fresh, the 2015 Chardonnay envelopes the senses with lemon zest, green apple and jasmine aromas. A richly textured mouth feel with inviting citrus notes, stone fruit and lemon custard throughout the palate, followed by crushed oyster shell minerality and a subtle toasted brioche finish.

Vintage Notes The 2015 Sonoma Coast growing season experienced dry, mild winter and spring temperatures similar to the prior three growing seasons. Bud break was 3-4 weeks earlier than normal, followed by an early period of bloom. May temperatures were cool, but August and September were consistently warm, creating conditions for one of the earliest harvests on record. The early growing season resulted in extremely small clusters and berries with intense flavor and tannin structure. The early harvest allowed our winemaking team the ability to capture the natural acidity in the fruit with ideal sugar accumulation.

Reviews 93 Points - LPB, Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate
The 2015 Chardonnay has a rock star nose of opulent pineapple, guava and green mango notes with touches of brioche and butterscotch. Medium-bodied with a satiny texture, it fills the palate with intense tropical fruits and savory flavors, marked by a lively backbone and finishes with some minerality. (March 2017)

95 Points - Virginie Boone, The Wine Enthusiast
Voluptuously succulent and welcoming, this coastal wine seduces with its caramel apple, pear and preserved lemon flavors, edged with high-toned acidity and an exotic touch of sea spray. That sense of the sea plays out on the palate in texture, too, with a stony note that lingers in nutty spice. (August 2017)
