A Farewell To Sarah Black

Today, we bid farewell to our Vineyard Manager, Sarah Black, following twenty harvests at Joseph Phelps Vineyards. Sarah joined the winery in 2001 and was promoted to Viticulturist in 2004. In 2015, she was named Vineyard Manager, overseeing the winery's estate vineyards in Napa Valley and the Sonoma Coast, always working toward the highest quality grape growing in diverse vintage conditions.

"Sarah always has a smile and is willing to stop what she is doing and help a coworker. Sarah is loyal, kind, funny, smart and always looking out for her team. She taught me many things about the vineyards and I feel I am a better winemaker because I had 19+ years of lessons from her. I will greatly miss Sarah in my daily work routine," stated Ashley Hepworth, Joseph Phelps Napa Valley Winemaker.

Joseph Phelps Napa Valley Assistant Winemaker, Kelly Fields, noted, "I will always cherish Sarah's loyalty and integrity in upholding Joe’s legacy in the vineyards."

We invite you to raise a glass to our friend and colleague, Sarah Black, as she embarks on a wonderful new wine growing adventure with her husband, Stephan Pfaffle, in Germany!
