Winemaking Data

Grapes were hand picked on the morning of September 30, 2010, at an average 22.7o Brix and frozen to minus 5o F. The grapes were then partially thawed, allowing the concentrated juice high in sugar levels to be released while leaving water crystals behind with the skins when pressed. Over several hours of slow, gentle pressing, the juice achieved a sugar content of 34.4o Brix and was fermented in stainless steel tanks to 23.5% residual sugar and 8.0% alcohol before bottling in January, 2011.

Winemaker Notes

The 2010 Scheurebe has delicate aromas of apricot, candied pineapple and orange blossom. Characteristics of crushed rock and honey meld along with balanced acidity and a viscous texture lend to the long-lasting and refreshing finish. This wine’s balance, sugar level and low alcohol combine for a long, graceful aging highlighted by intense stone fruit and layers of caramel.

Vintage Notes

Budbreak in the two Scheurebe blocks occurred during the third week in March, around the same time frame as the previous four years. Spring temperatures were significantly cooler, causing bloom to begin two weeks later than normal. Continued cool weather in May delayed the vine phenology further. Despite the general overall cooler growing season, the development in the Scheurebe vines was quite favorable and allowed for flavors and aromas to retain their delicate and fresh characteristics.
